This policy brief analyses the NYS project’s economic impact through job-creation and inculcating a savings culture primarily through the SACCOs. It explores how the inclusion of youth in economic life through the NYS empowerment project contributed to the prevention and reduction of crime in Kibra and Mathare. It concludes that future youth economic empowerment programmes that aim to reduce crime can draw many lessons from the NYS Community Cohorts Programme in Mathare and Kibra.
