This note partly draws from discussions of a workshop on preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) in Mombasa County held on 25 July 2024. The workshop was convened by the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies (CHRIPS) under the USAID Sauti Yako, Amani Yako programme. It brought together diverse state and non-state stakeholders. They included officials from the National and County governments, persons with disabilities (PWDs), public benefit organisations (PBOs), religious leaders, academia and the private sector. This note explores the unique and significant role of chiefs in preventing and countering violent extremism (P/CVE) in Mombasa. It is tailored to state and non-state development actors working on PCVE, peacebuilding, security and governance.
